Louisiana Businesses Reviewing Their PEO Options.

Since 1999 StaffMarket has assisted nearly 20,000 business owners and company executives identify and compare the best PEO alternatives for their companies. Every company considering joining a PEO is unique in their needs and expectations. At the same time, every PEO has their own unique acceptance criteria and only allows companies to join their PEO if the client company meets their requirements for:

  • Preferred business type.
  • Workers' compensation insurance.
  • Company size.
  • Average wage.
  • Louisiana and out of state business locations.

For businesses seeking access to group health insurance for their Louisiana employees, PEOs may offer a program that helps their customers meet ACA requirements and provides cost advantages over other standard market health insurance alternatives. Once again, every PEO varies in their ability to offer access to Louisiana health insurance plans for their client companies.

In Louisiana, StaffMarket has helped hundreds of companies quickly identify and assess their best options for joining a PEO. Companies large and small have used StaffMarket to get industry insight and competitive proposals from Professional Employer Organizations operating in Louisiana.

Company specializes in performance tuning software and devices for automobiles. They do everything in house now, but want to see how a Professional Employer Organization can primarily help with the HR admin/costs, and benefits. They offer a BCBS plan now. A census, and salary breakdown are attached.

29 Employee Company

This company is a small drywall and painting contractor that had been utilizing a Professional Employer Organization for many years, but that Professional Employer Organization made the decision to only service accounts with 5 EEs or more and dropped this account. LRs are attached to this RFP. The contact person is the accounts accounting person and she works another job so please utilize email in your initial conversations.

3 Employee Company

This is a very small construction company that has only kept a couple of employees on for the last several months, so they don't have any current W/Comp coverage in place. However, they are now bidding and winning contracts in TX for primarily land clearing services. These contracts are to perform land clearing, some dirt moving, mulching and setting up fences along pipelines and some rigs. They expect most of the contract in TX but also anticipate contracts in OK and LA as well. They have won their first contract in TX which will require about 5 EEs. But they expect to win a couple more which they said will take them to about 40 EEs over the next 30 to 60 days. The average pay will be $20/hr. I would typically request LRs, current W/C declaration and payroll run summary but none of those are applicable in this situation. The company will not be paying for any benefits but they would like a Professional Employer Organization that can at least offer the individual to purchase some kind of coverage.

42 Employee Company

This company is a no-profit advocacy group that is in need of outsourced HR admin help. Their needs are all over the board and seem like a perfect fit for a Professional Employer Organization. They currently utilize BCBS coverage and some current plan documentation is attached along with a census. Of course, these guys are in a hurry. The contact person is their newly hired CFO

This will be a new entity that is buying some of the existing well assets of another large operator. At this point, the company will be domiciled in LA where most of the clerical EEs will be located and the wells are located in TX. However, they are still evaluating organizational structures and may make the TX operation a subsidiary of the LA entity. If there are any implications on how or where these companies are domiciled, please advise the contact on those issues. In ten days the current owner will address the EEs of the pending change in ownership and the next day this new entity will address the same EEs, introducing themselves and describing the compensation package. It is for this meeting that they will need to have that package nailed down. It has been explained that the TX field EEs will only be operating currently producing wells. All drilling, water hauling, pipeline work and roustabout will be performed by outside contractors. The owners of the new entity perused a different group last spring which was eventually declined, but the attached PDF describes the benefit compensation package from that offer and they would want to mimic here. Please make sure to review it prior to initial contact. No census is available at this time. The current owner will not release any info until a deal is formalized. These guys are looking for a true partner that can help facilitate a smooth transition.

50 Employee Company

This company is an Oilfield Service company in which the primary focus is the hauling/transporting of fluids, drilling muds, salt water, and oilfield waste water. They pick up the fluids and haul them to various oilfield disposal sites. In addition to the oilfield water/waste they are hauling generators and compressors. They also have containment mats as well as some power-washing/cleaning equipment that they use to clean up equipment and tanks on locations. When an oil rig is ready to be broken down and hauled to a new site, the insured will power wash the rig before it is loaded to be moved. One of their major clients requires all vendors to have a MOD of 1.00 or less. They were able to get AIG to blend their LA and TX MOD together last year and it came out to .99. However, their MOD is now 1.47 and can no longer be blended. So they are now looking into utilizing a Professional Employer Organization that can show them as having a MOD of 1.00 or lower. I have several underwriting documents attached, i.g., ACORD, LRs, MOD worksheet, audit reports, current dec, etc. They need to make a change over by 10/14/16. Please contact me to discuss prior to your calling the primary contact on the RFP.

One of the issues he is having with the current Professional Employer Organization is getting new hire background checks quickly. LRs are attached. UPDATE: The W/C code displayed on this RFP is not correct. The correct code is 9170. They also plan to add 2 more EEs here shortly which should add another $58,000 in estimated gross payroll.

This company rents offshore support vessels to the oil an gas industry. The CFO has used Professional Employer Organizations at other organizations and thinks one may be a good fit here. However about half of their EE base is covered by Jones Act, so a carve out of the W/C would most likely be necessary for this part of the group.
